About MHOLA
MHOLA Is a non - profit making, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered under the Society Ordinance of 1954 of Tanzania October 2006, and later under the NGO act no 24 of 2002, with certificate no 00NGO00008006 in June 2015. The Organization is also registered as a legal aid provider under Ministry of Constitutional and Legal Affairs with the certificate number LAP-2019-0005.
MHOLA aims at building capacity of women and children by creating awareness on their rights, provision of Legal and health services to the community particularly women and children who have no access to that very important right. The main objectives are to eliminate violation of women’s and children’s fundamental rights by creating legal awareness to the community, through seminars, trainings, workshops, dissemination of brochures and other related Information, Education and Communication materials (IEC), provision of legal aid, court representation where deemed necessary and appropriate referrals to different higher legal institutions.
The organization is also deeply engaged in provision of good Health Education and Health Promotion, especially to vulnerable groups in rampant children pregnancies, women, older and people living with HIV/AIDS by engaging in Primary Health Care and Community Based Health Care (PHC/CBHC). Our focus is to promote Early Childhood Development (ECD) on Education, Nutrition and Child Protection.
At the time of its establishment, MHOLA had only three staff with one rented office in Bukoba Municipal whereby its budget was less than Tsh 300,000 per month. (USD 1,636 per year) covering Bukoba municipal only where the focus was to help the women and children who had false accusations and end up in jail unnecessarily in Bukoba district. Ten years later Its budget increased up to Tshs 1.1 billion (USD 505,050) per year where the organization managed to have its own office premises (head office) at Muleba Butembo village and established branch offices in the districts of Karagwe, Ngara and Bukoba within Kagera region and Dar es salaam with 18 staff on board. For the purpose of increasing access to legal aid at low costs/none cost; 8 paralegal organizations with trained 200 paralegals in 8 districts of Kagera region (25 @ district) has been established and work at the ward level. On the other end, we do provide the online Legal Aid services to clients through our Toll Free number (+255 800712350).
The organization owns a Daycare Centre (with 10hecter-area) located at Muleba which apart from serving most vulnerable children, the center has facilities for training sessions to the community and promote Early Child Development (ECD). More than 350 children have used and enjoyed the MHOLA Daycare Centre.
